Trophy Room
du Pont Gallery, University of Mary Washington
Fall 2016

"Trophy Room" was installed at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg VA as part of an exhibition of the same name.  The gallery featured a long layout with grey walls and low ceiling.  Over three days volunteers assisted with building a kind of cabinet of curiosities/ bomb shelter that matched the space.  First a series of long shelves was pasted on the walls, which were then filled in with objects.  Groupings emerged as we worked with sections for "vessels", "figures", "plant life" etc.

At the conclusion of the exhibition students helped deinstall and participated in a recycled paper making workshop.  On the second day students helped print a new relief print "Stonewall Jackson's Arm" on the sheets of paper.  Stonewall Jackson was shot by his own troops at the Battle of Chancellorsville near Fredericksburg VA where University of Mary Washington is located. He lost his arm which was then buried near the battlefield, he died soon after and the rest of him plus his horse can be found in Lexington VA.  The story of Jackson's arm is an example of the strange reverence humans assign objects, a central theme of much of my work.

"Trophy Room" screen-printed cut paper wheat pasted on walls. 96"x720"
