Duval Comics and Zine Fest (DCAZ)
DCAZ was the brain child of Dan Wiley and Lindsay Anderson, two Jacksonville artists, zinesters, and all around cultural supporters. The first DCAZ was scheduled to take place in the Main Jacksonville Public Library in March 2020 and had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. In early 2022 Dan, Lindsay, and librarian and artist James Greene reformed a zine group with the purpose of activating the Zine Collection of the Jacksonville Public Library (one of two circulating zine collections in the US, and the largest collection in the south east with some 2,000 books).
I was invited along with Emily Malo, owner of Propshop Jax a local zine distribution, and artist and educator Anthony Aiuppy to take part in the group. The result was hosting the first DCAZ on October 22 in the Main Library. Over 50 zinesters tabled with over 1,000 attendees visiting.
As part of DCAZ I brought my riso duplicator to the library where participants were invited to create collages that were scanned and printed in one of three colors (flo pink, sunflower, or light teal). Participants could take as many copies with them, or leave some behind leading to experimental collaborative prints. I made prints with kids and adults from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm (the event was only scheduled from 12-5).
The event was profiled by Lauren Fox for Folio, a local weekly paper in Jacksonville.
