Things Will Get Better, But They Won't Be The Same
University of West Georgia
Winter 2022

I was invited by Stephanie Smith to have an exhibition at the University of West Georgia in the Winter of 2022.  At this time their galleries were under renovation, requiring an exhibition that took advantage of the architecture of the available space.  In consultation with Stephanie I designed a series of text pieces made from plotter cut vinyl to cover the lobby of the art building.  The piece ran for over 50 linear feet and was approximately 10' in height.

This was the first exhibition since the start of COVID-19 and my work had begun to develop more in line with my work making comics and journaling.

First/Last Collaborative Zine and Writing Workshop

In addition to the exhibition I held writing workshops with three classes.  Students were provided 3 prompts "First Day of School", "First", and "Last" and were lead through a writing exercise.  Each student produced 3 stories in less than 2 hours.  After the workshop students had the option to submit a story for inclusion in a collaborative Zine- 18 students submitted.  The result was "First/Last", a 20 page book with a 2 color screenprinted cover designed by one of the participants.

Things Will Get Better, But They Won't Be the Same
36 pages, laser printed, 7"x5", 2022
For the exhibition I wrote 18 stories about transition moments- coming out of, or going into new things, collected into a Zine also titled "Things Will Get Better, But They Won't Be The Same".  Copies were provided to the students and volunteers who helped to install the exhibition.
